The Sasquatch Game Studio came to Seattle’s PaizoCon last weekend to show off Primeval Thule and get some Pathfinder RPG playtesting done! On Friday and Saturday we ran two-hour playtest sessions for volunteers who wanted a taste of Thule’s savagery.
In Rich’s sessions, a treasure-seeker stumbled out of the forest, telling tales of a mummy who wept tears of gold. The treasure seeker died of his wounds, but the gold he carried got the players’ attention.
Tracing a path back through the jungle, the players overcame marauding beastmen and stalking sabertooth tigers before reaching the cave. Inside the cave was the mummy and the gold as promised…but also a priest of Set and some cultists determined to claim the cave for themselves. The winners of that battle would earn vast wealth—and the losers would join the mummy in eternal rest.
Dave’s sessions took place in the decadent elven city of Imystrahl, where the PCs were gladiator-slaves yearning for freedom. When a purple worm shook off its bindings during the arena battle and started rampaging throughout the coliseum, the players saw their chance to escape slavery and took it…
…into the catacombs beneath the coliseum. There they found eldritch horrors (a test of some “otherworldly horror” rules we’re working on). The survivors gained their freedom—and a healthy dislike for creatures that fold in on themselves.
On Sunday morning, we combined forces with Legendary Games to announce some extra content for Primeval Thule. The Legendary Games crew will be writing a new PDF adventure that we’ve added to all reward levels of $40 or more, and we’re also adding another new PDF adventure inspired by the miniatures in the recently kickstarted Cthulhu Wars boardgame.
That’s two new PDF adventures for all backers at $40 or more…and we have further plans in the works.
Our thanks to Joseph, Anna, Lynn, Albert, Stephen, Matthew, Tim, Charles, Rebecca, Beverley, Claude, Michael, and all the other playtesters who helped bring Primeval Thule to life at PaizoCon—plus everyone who attended our Sunday seminar. Hope you enjoyed the donuts!
