Primeval Thule Release Approaching!

The container ship with our print run of Primeval Thule has docked, and we are awaiting imminent delivery of our physical copies to our “warehouse” for redistribution to our Kickstarter backers. We’ve got some fun ahead of us for the next couple of weeks, including signing all of the leatherbound books, individually packing books for shipment, and convincing the postal service that they really want to send a truck out to pick up a few hundred parcels!

If you didn’t have a chance to get in on the Kickstarter, there will are some avenues by which you might still be able to get your hands on a hardcover copy. A sizeable portion of the print run, in both 13th Age and Pathfinder varieties, is also headed to our distributor, PSI, where it will be available for hobby retailers that wish to stock copies of Primeval Thule. We may also be offering some copies for sale though our website, depending on what we’ve got left on hand after we have completed the fulfillment process.

Back from Gen Con!

We made it back from Gen Con! It was great to see so many of our Kickstarter backers at the show, and Primeval Thule had a great reception. Everyone that saw it thought it looked great!

We’d planned to have the PDFs of Primeval Thule available during the show, but it looks like they were held up at DriveThruRPG. They are showing up now and are available from our publisher page on DriveThruRPG.

It’s been a great week, and it just got a little more interesting. We’ll share more details when we can.

Primeval Thule Debuts at Gen Con

At long last, the Primeval Thule Campaign Setting is finally available!

PDFs for the 4th edition D&D and Pathfinder Roleplaying Game compatible versions of the campaign setting are available this week on DriveThruRPG, with the 13th Age Roleplaying Game version to follow in the coming days. You can access the version you’d like from our publisher page on DriveThruRPG.

It's a book! Our first run of books is off the printer, and they look great! As a result, we have a limited number of copies of Pathfinder-compatible Primeval Thule available for sale at our Gen Con booth (#2537). If you are a Kickstarter backer, you can pick up your copy at our booth, too.

The books will also be available for sale later this year, once our primary print run arrives from our printer. We’ll post details on our website at that time. And Kickstarter backers who backed us for deluxe or premium versions of the Primeval Thule Campaign Setting (and basic versions of Thule for 4th Edition D&D or the 13th Age Roleplaying Game) will receive their copies at that time.

Our Gen Con 2014 Plans

We’re all headed to Indianapolis for Gen Con in a few weeks, and we’ve got most of our schedule laid out.

Our biggest news, of course, is that we’ll be celebrating the release of Primeval Thule! Well, we’ll probably still be waiting on physical books to be delivered from our printer, but the PDF will be out by then, and it will be a good time to celebrate. Continue reading

Sasquatch at Gen Con 2014

We’re finalizing our plans for this year’s Gen Con, and we’re going to have a lot going on!

First up, this year we are going to have a booth in the exhibitor’s hall. We’re sharing a cozy booth with Kobold Press, which looks to be near (but not quite in) Entrepreneur’s Avenue. If the stars align, we may even have copies of Primeval Thule available for sale at the show. More details to come on that as we get closer to the show.

We’ll also be running a Primeval Thule game for our friends at The RPG Academy – they are giving away seats at the table through a contest on their website so be sure to head over there for the details.

We have some other events planned for the show that we are excited to announce, but need to wait until we get all the details, so stay tuned until we can unveil our Scheme!

Primeval Thule Preview: Adventure Sites

One of our goals with the Primeval Thule Campaign Setting is to provide the GM with a bountiful toolbox just full of interesting things he or she can build adventures with. Accordingly, we took the liberty of stocking the “geography” chapter with half a dozen adventure sites. In our experience, GMs are always looking for floor plans or site maps they can appropriate for their own adventure design. In addition to a useful map, we also provide a little bit of site history and a description of some of the key features, so that any GM worth their salt can quickly turn it into an evening’s adventure. This site is located near the Kalayan Sea, the inland sea of Thule. Rich Baker designed the site, and Christopher West provided the cartography. Enjoy! Continue reading

Primeval Thule Table of Contents

Greetings, far travelers! This week we’re sharing the Table of Contents from our Primeval Thule Campaign Setting book. This is not quite complete—for the sake of brevity we only included the subheads under one of the geographical regions, and we skipped other details here and there. Likewise, we didn’t account for all 272 pages in the chapter counts, because there’s front matter and an index too. We also may revise some of the specifics as we finalize the text, but this should provide a good overview of what the setting book is all about, and hopefully convey some of the flavor and execution of the Thule setting! Previewing the Primeval Thule Cover

The Primeval Thule Campaign Setting will feature cover art by the illustrious illustrator, Todd Lockwood. You might recall that we had to wait until a window opened in Todd’s schedule. That meant we couldn’t provide a cover sketch during our Kickstarter campaign or show off what the cover poster would even begin to look like. In November Todd was finally able to turn his attention to Thule, so we (well, Rich Baker) drove down to Todd’s house and spent a morning going over everything Thule with Todd. Continue reading

Ordering Art

We are totally excited about making Primeval Thule an awesome campaign setting, but we know the book needs to be more than just great words – we need great art to bring the world to life, to show the readers and the players glimpses of our vision of the world. To get the art we wanted, we needed to not only get great artists on board to illustrate the world, but we also needed to make sure that the artists share our vision and create illustrations that really show off the feel of Thule. Crowdfunding Success!

Our post-kickstarter PayPal pledge drive raised over $3,500 in additional pledges! While we didn’t cross our next stretch goal threshold, we came close enough that we are going to add an extra 16 pages to the book anyway. That means the book now weighs in at 272 pages, and it has more room for all the cool elements we want to put into it. We will also maintain our art ratio (pages of art/maps vs. total pages) for the overall book, which means we’ll commission a few more illustrations to help fill these pages.
