One of the core player mechanics introduced in Primeval THULE is the character narrative system. Somewhat like backgrounds, a narrative provides a foundation for a character’s history, but also provides a character’s career, position, or calling in life.
In 5e, narratives can be taken as an alternative to backgrounds. Narratives provide a small list of benefits thematically linked to the story and flavor of the specific narrative. At first level these features include skill training and usually a signature ability that provides a small combat benefit. As the character increases in level, additional benefits become available, reflecting a rise in stature or notoriety. At higher levels a narrative might grant an income, a title, or even followers!
There are nineteen narratives in the Primeval THULE Campaign Setting, and possibly more if our Player’s Companion gets through enough stretch goals in our Primeval THULE 5e Kickstarter. Below, you’ll find our in-progress work on the 5e version of the Golden Sea Corsair narrative. (Yes, we know it says Warlord under Key Identity, which will be edited in our next revision.)
